New Start Program
The New Start program envisions assisting women who have experienced abuse by intimate partner finding new skills and new hope for a new life. Both participants and the community have been overwhelming positive. In the first 3 groups of the 4-week workshop we have had 21 graduates move closer to their goal of long-term sustainable employment. These women are now participating in Skills Training, Employment Placement and Community Placement programs.
We have officially had our first successful graduate of a Skills Training Program. She excelled above and beyond any expectations and has landed herself full time employment as a result of her co-op placement!!
A number of women successfully obtained employment as a result of working with our employment placement team.
Some comments from our workshop evaluations include:
- "The workshop has made me think about: Life in a whole new light. I felt stuck beginning the program but after as little as four weeks I feel I can conquer any goal I set for myself which has made me feel excited for what the future holds for me"
- "The workshop has made me think about: Leaving my partner, starting now, and a lot of thinking about what I would like to do in the future, which has helped me a lot"
- "Something that surprised me was: How much I’ve changed by coming here. It’s given me the confidence I didn’t think I had to really achieve my goals. The day before the workshop, I’d never have thought I’d be so confident"
Our partnership with the London Abused Women’s Centre is assisting the women in moving forward towards achieving their goals and making a better life for themselves.
